Project Create’s custom-designed studio is equipped to host a wide range of art classes, creative workshops, open studio, film screenings, and art enrichment opportunities for all ages and experience levels.
Project Create welcomes children and youth of any level of artistic skill during weekly afterschool and evening classes.
Project Create’s Anacostia art studio, opened in 2015, is full of art supplies and equipment, computers with creative design software, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, and a talented staff of experienced teaching artists and art therapists. Multidisciplinary studio classes (such as mixed-media collage, jewelry making, graphic design, dance, theater improv, and drawing & painting) are provided daily, year-round in three semesters. After school and before Project Create classes begin, we host a daily open studio where experienced arts educators lead participants in an accepting and creative artistic environment. Students can participate in as many after-school classes as they choose; all classes are free.
In January 2019, Project Create began offering digital media classes. Our studio is fully equipped with sound and recording equipment, video and photo technology, new computers with graphic design capabilities and 3-D printers. Classes provide advanced education and training in digital media arts where teens and young adults can combine art and technology, mixing their unique voices through film, photography, illustration and music. This program is designed to develop and nurture leadership skills, cultivate critical thinkers, produce creative work that reflects students’ interests, and amplify youth voices to drive creative change in their community. This studio houses our Project Create ELITE (Energetically Lifting and Inspiring Teens to Excellence) program, designed to develop and nurture leadership skills in our more advanced students.
